connecting 3LNB dish to swm-16

$

There are 4 dish connections to the swm-16 multiswitch.  The 2 on the left are labeled SAT99/101 and the 2 on the right are labeled sat 103/110/119.  There are 4 leads coming from the LNB, but there is no indication where they go or what they are.  Is there a particular way to connect them or does it matter?

Thanks in advance

lots of random channel pixelation....

We switched to DirecTV from DISH about 2 1/2 years ago, and had no problems until last year.... we are now having a LOT of pixelation / signal loss 771 on lots of channels. This happens on recordings and also live TV, and used to be bad only when it rained, now it happens when the weather is clear. Out here we have very hot days 100's and has been cool at night upper 60's, but it seems to pixelate all the time now  I had looked this up a while back and it seemed to be the consensus that I should try to change my LNB (this is a cheaper option than paying $50.00 just to have a service guy come out)  We have a SWiM SL3S4NR2-02 LNB (this only has one line connection), what are my options as far as a new LNB? Are there other ones that will work or are compatible? are there newer upgraded ones etc Please Help

Thank You

I have attached a photo of the old one.

Thinking of upgrading Directv - what receiver?

I need advice on Directv and the receiver options available. I am very new to the use of Directv equipment having moved in with my dad who has been a user since 2001. He is 88 y/o and has no idea about equipment, only that it should function and be simple to use.

Current equipment in use: H23-600 (main room), DSX-5500 (bedroom)

I wish to get him some new options within Directv like On Demand which requires a DVR but which DVR to get?

His entertainment requirements are simple, movie selections with no interuptions and a simple to use format.

I doubt he would use the 'record' feature or some of the other advertised feature mentioned on the Directv website.

I had contemplated getting him a Roku with Netflix as the movie selection there seems to be quite extensive but perhaps On Demand is just as good?

I'd like to call Directv for options but first I'd like to educate myself by getting some suggestions from real people who use these systmes. I hope some of you can help give me guidance.

Genie client audio drop out when TV is off

Recently upgraded to Genie + 2 clients.  Really no problems, I self installed, everything wonderful.....

EXCEPT:  We enjoyed listening to either the music channels or our media share library with the television set off.  With my older setups, I connected the audio out to my stereo, set up the music, then turned the TV off.  With my new set up, when I turn the TV off (HDMI connected), after about 30 seconds I lose the audio from the digital coax output. If I then unplug the HDMI cable from the client to the TV, the audio returns.  So obviously the client takes its audio "cue" from the HDMI connection on whether or not to be active.  I looked for some settings, but didn't find them.  Any suggestions?

HR24 rebooting problem

$

Two or three times recently we have powered on our DTV HR24-500 to find it at the blue "Running receiver self check" screen.  It then completes the reboot and operates normally.  This is a problem for a couple of reasons:  1) Shows that are scheduled to record during this limbo state don't begin recording - unless they are still in progress when the boot sequence completes, then recording "resumes", otherwise it is just missed and we have to try to find a re-broadcast or get it online or something.  2) As is normal during any reboot, it takes several hours for the guide data to fill back in, so scheduling recordings (missed or otherwise) right after the unplanned reboot is pretty spotty for a while.

We have noticed that this sometimes occurs during a big storm - but the most recent one happened when there was no storm activity or even any cloud cover.  It was during prime time in the evening and several favorite shows were not recorded.  The unit does not give any evidence of a failing HD, i.e. recorded shows play back normally.

Any info or suggestions?  Thanks!

HR23 tuner 2 not acquired/all zeroes

I have an HR23, HR21, and R22 (SWM8). After a storm (high wind and power outage), I'm getting 75% on tuner 1, 0% on tuner 2 with the HR23. The HR21 has 90% on both tuners.

A similiar situation happened a month or two ago where the 23 was having signal loss, but the 21 was fine (I swapped them to rule out cabling/location issues and it was receiver specific). I just used the 21 for all recordings. After about two weeks, the 23 started working without signal issues.

I have the PP so they'll ship a replacement w/o  problem. I'm just curious if it could be an alignment problem. If it is alignment, I'll probably go for the genie upgrade while the tech realigns. If it is the rec., I'd rather just replace it myself.

Hopefully some of you more knowledgeable people are familiar with this. Thanks in advance!

HR24-500 Reformat Internal drive

Hi.

What is the process to reformat the internal drive?

I also sent in a report: 20140703-2a4d

Long story:

I talked to a CSR and she told me I need to try to reformat my internal drive. I'm not convinced she understood what was happening. She kept saying my screen was pixellated but it isn't. I digress...

I'm not home and I wanted to have that reformatting done via my wife to save time when I call them back tonight.

She wouldn't tell me how to do it since I wasn't home and said it was an involved process.

It seems the June 20 0x880 update did some harm to my DVR. So they pushed the newest update on July 1.

After turning off the receiver and tv, the dvr has been unresponsive to remote or even touching the power button on the front when I try to turn it on again. This has been going on for at least a week. After a RBR it works perfect .... till I turn it off again. Started after that June 20 update.

I ran the diagnostics and got errors 22-72-528

- 22 is hard drive / internal storage

- 72 is phone not connected (yeah. i turned off my land line)

- 528 - no idea

I went to hard drive utilities and ran:

File System Verification: Pass

SMART Short Test: Fail

LBA Fix: Pass

I went into diagnostics menu:

Software version: 0x0884

Software name: v1b2180_0x0884

B_T Version:7.69 (wife sent photo of screen and a specular highlight is reflecting off the screen where the middle letter is)

BSL Version: 1.07

Hardware revision: 2.2

HR23-700 died, got HR24-200...Issues

So my HR23-700 died.  Directv sent me a new HR24-200 as a replacement.  Installed and guess what no HD, only SD.  They did not send the b-band filters so that I could get HD.  Before the HR24, B-Band filters built into units!!!

So now they shipping B-Band filters.

THis is just a heads up to those who might be in a similar situation.

Mixing Genie and HR24

Apologies if this has been asked and answered before, but can you mix and match a Genie and an HR24 in a whole-home setup?

My current setup is two HR24s linked via Ethernet for whole home.  I had a lightning strke outside my house this afternoon - it sucked - and the DVR in the living room was still operational.  However, the 55" TV would not turn on, so I pulled the UPS to check for damage.  Aftwards, the HR24 would not power back up.  The TV won't power up either, just clicks ever 10 seconds as what I assume a capacitor or internal circuit breaking keeps resetting.  This sucks too.

I called DTV to see about hardware options.  I can get a Genie and a mini for free, but I don't really want to swap out the working HR24 at this point.  It's in the office, running composite to an old Trinitron TV.  The HDMI interface crapped out on that HR24 about 2 years ago, but since it's on an old TV, it's not a big deal.

So, question one is, can a Genie and HR24 work together in a whole home setup?  I generally know the pros and cons of the Genie client/mini, and personally, I would prefer to have two full DVRs, more for redundancy than anything else.  It sounds like the minis are pretty much dumb clients that can only stream content from a full Genie.  As an old switch and router techie, single points of failure are not my thing.

By the way, the TV and DVR that got hit, were both on battery outlets on a fairly new 850v UPS.  A lightning bolt to a tree just ouside the window of that room seems to have trumped the UPS.

What is going on with my HR24??

I have an HR24/200 with AM21 hooked up. I have a Slimline 5 dish w/ 2 lines running down to my living room, so I used the trick of multiplexing the OTA signal onto one of the sat lines and bringing the b-band converters downstairs. System has been working fine.

The way I like to use my system is to once a week look in the To Do list and click Other Showings to see which new eps there are and if I want to record. Yes, I know there is a season pass, etc. to make it automated, but I prefer it this way... just giving you a quick backstory...

Anyways, within the last week or two, I noticed, the Other Showings and even a brand new Search would not find all the episodes. For example, I know Pawn Stars airs Thursdays @ 6 & 6:30. If I jumped to the dates in the guide, the episodes are showing up in the guide. They just aren't showing up in the searches.

Yesterday, I rebooted my DVR once, so its been around 24 hours. When I rebooted, the guide started to repopulate over again. It looks like its up to date now, but the search still isn't working.

This is not just one show, a lot of shows are exhibiting this behavior.

Another odd thing... when I do the system test, it fails 2 tests (dial tone, duh) and also the dish alignment test. However, if I look at the signal meter, all transponders on all tuners on all birds are in the 90's. I think one of the birds are in the 80's.

How can I get my search working again and whats up with the dish alignment test failing?

Thanks!

HR20-700 really lagging all of a sudden

I am wondering if anyone has seen this or can offer a suggestion...I have noticed over the last week that increasingly my HR20-700 gets very unresponsive - I Press Guide and it takes 4 or 5 presses, 10-15 seconds before it comes up; typing digits nothing shows; pressing list same thing; I can be doing a fast forward through an ad and I press play and it goes way past because the Play does not "take" for about 10 seconds. I don't know if it requires the multiple presses or it would just respond in 10-15 seconds.

I have seen this behavior with both my Harmony Ultimate and my DirecTV remote - I Keep both and have been trying both when this happens, the behavior is the same.

DIsk drive is not full (I have used an external drive for at least 5 years, it's only about 60% full); I Have reset the HR20. Do you have any ideas how to fix this, is the HR20 just going bad or something?

Thanks!

Problem after software update

I have had a problem with my HR24 with each of the last 3 software updates.  Each time the update has been pushed out, I have turned the DVR on in the morning to be greeted with the Blue start up screen.  Every time it has happened a software upgrade has been pushed out overnight.  Every other day the DVR operates normally.
This is only happening on one of my 3 DVR's but the third one is a different model.

I am concerned that if I don't manually turn the DVR on in the morning that it will miss some of my daily recordings that occur while I am at work.

Has anyone else had this problem?  Should I report it to DTV?  I really don't want to replace that DVR right now because I have a bunch of programs recorded on it that have not been watched yet.

HBO On Demand Slowwwwwwwwwwwwww!

I have been having issues streaming HBO On Demand on my HR21-200 recently.  Sometimes it will be fine, other times it says my connection is too slow and I have to wait until the video buffers or I will get the message to just record the program yet when I analyze my wireless bridge (Linksys WET610N) during the download it has a solid connection with rates between 270-300 Mbps.  I have no problems with my wireless network at all as I have a background setting up networks and all looks good so I can only assume this is a DirecTV server issue.  Anyone else experiencing similar issues since this update?  All other internet functions on my DVR such as YouTube and Pandora have no problems at all and all other VOD channels are fine.  I also tested using DirecTV2PC and streaming a HD movie and again, no problems.

I have already done a RBR as well as a power down reboot but nothing seems to help - it is hit or miss and is becoming increasingly annoying.

I also notices that when I go to say HBO On-Demand and select a series that sometimes I will see the orange record symbol ® on the episodes and other times I don't.  What is that?

DTV swapped an HR24-500, for an HR21-200

We recently had a lightning strike that ruined a Genie and an HR24-500 receivers. The technician replaced the Genie with a Genie, but gave me what I consider to be a lesser HR21-200 receiver, in place of the HR24.
I questioned him regarding this and his reply was that he's given what's in his shop and thats it. I E-mailed DTV and their reply was that they send out what's available at the time in order to keep costs down.
What can I do?

My Teams not working

Has anyone ever had a problems with the "My Teams" feature on the Genie saying "not available-check back in an hour?"

It's been working great for me for six months, but stopped recording my teams and when I check it, it acts like I'm setting it up for the first time. The problem is that it won't let me select any teams. I've been getting the error for 3 weeks, and have called DirecTV twice with no luck. I've done multiple resets and have had no luck.

DTV says they've never seen the error and have been no help. Has anyone seen it?

Upgrade HR-20

I have a HR-34 in the living room and an old HR-20 in my bedroom. The HR-20 is getting long in the tooth and super slow so I am wondering if it is worth it to get rid of it and get a genie client instead? Not too familiar with the clients and if this would be a downgrade for me.

Question on HR-44 Network Services

$

I have an HR-44 and a GenieGo, and after I did the port forwarding in my firewall for the GenieGo, things seem to be working ok. I can download shows from the Genie, etc.

While assigning a static IP to the HR-44, I noticed in its network services menu it has two ports (27177, and 27178 I do believe) in the manual setup.

Why would I want to consider forwarding those ports as well? Is there some additional functionality I can gain if those ports are exposed externally? I looked in the manual, but there is no mention of it.

Also, I am new to the networked DirecTV receivers. Is there a way to manage recordings remotely (such as delete them) without using something like a slingbox? I know you can add recordings. Did not know if there was a way to manage them without directly interacting with the unit.

Thanks, please advise.

Equipment on new installs and the company doing it

$

When DTV does a new install, do they tell you the company that will be doing the install? There are a couple of companies in our area that advertise on the radio that they will install DTV for you, and what I would like is to get the best deal I can get from someone on the phone (I assume I can get a better deal from them than the local installers) and then, if they use one of these companies in town, call the installer directly before they come out and ask them to ensure they have an HR-44 on the truck and not a 34, etc.

Thanks
